I would love for someone to put forward a convincing argument on why Gordon Brown should stay as leader of this Party.
After all this time I have only heard one: that the Party can’t afford a leadership election. My mate David reminded me earlier. That’s hardly the inspiring clarion call – but can someone come up with a good argument that he should stay?

So the question is this: Who could possibly blame us for making changes after a loss like this?

Whoever it is, the next leader of the Labour Party is probably a current cabinet member. If things keep going as they are, and we’re allowed to slump to a record defeat – Gordon’s shouldn’t be the only career to pay the price.

Colleagues, I hope we’re paying attention and taking note of what the Tories say and write these days. To avoid complete hypocrisy - the criticism they level at the Government now, should be the standard they are rigidly held to later.
If we do, the next Tory government could be a one term affair - unless of course the Tories are genuine - which I doubt.

I’m sorry to say I almost had my breakfast ruined as I perused the popular blogs this morning. Tim Montgomerie, the Daddy of ConservativeHome, has perpetuated the extremely annoying stupidity that conflates opposition to George W Bush with anti-Americanism.

From the Tory Diary at Conservativehome:
Compassionate Conservatism is fundamentally the right thing to do, morally, but there are two different forms of electoral politics at work here, too. An agenda for the very poorest will win few direct votes but tells middle class and other comfortable voters that the Conservatives are a decent party that won't leave people behind.

After rallying to Labour’s financial cause, the Unions are “licking their lips” (
according to Iain Dale) and are set to "make demands" of Gordon Brown according to
this article in the Guardian.

It’s been quite a year. The Party is plumbing the depths of public opinion, we’ve done very comparatively little since 2005, the press hate us, people are tired of the Government and we can’t even buy good publicity for a Prime Minister who appears to have created an immovable public image that nobody can understand or warm to.

A brilliant article by
Polly Toynbee this morning draws our attention to the words of Lord Northcliffe at the end of his life when asked about the success of his newspaper, The Daily Mail: “I give them a daily hate”.

In 1961, JFK reminded the American association of newspaper editors of that old adage: “An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.”

…local democracy!
I’m not saying this because the Conservatives won or because we got a hammering but consider for a moment what has happened vis-à-vis how we got these results.

You know the feeling…you log onto LabourHome or another political website, see a new comment under a story you’ve written or posted on and read remarks that you completely disagree with.

It is, of course, brilliant. One of the most appropriate speeches I've ever read. This honest and challenging approach is why I'm a fan.

Mr. Cameron – I didn’t want to see your family on the news. I’m sure they’re perfectly lovely and you’re completely dedicated to them but this was a poor decision –not least because of the reason you gave.

A hammering in Mississippi currently being handed out, a superdelegate backer being forced to resign over a
sex scandal (which will remind everyone of Bill) and now flip-flopping on the Clinton-Obama ticket idea which she originally hinted at - I wonder what it'll take for her to realise she's finished in this campaign?
